Entry activity
Teacher enters the class with a smiling face and establishes a good rapport with the students.
Teacher initiates a discussion by asking some questions.
Do you like your school?
Why do you like it?
Do you have any differently abled friends?
Where do they study?
Have you ever visited a special school?

So, today we are going to learn one of the heart touching story titled school for sympathy written by E.V. Lucas (Presentation)

Model reading
Teacher reads the two paragraph with appropriate stress pause and intonation.

Silent reading
  1. Track reading
Students are asked to read the passage silently and to identify the difficult words. Teacher asks some global questions.
  • What is the title of the story?
  • Who is the author of the story?
  • Who is the main characters of the story?
  1. Collaborative reading
Students are divided into groups and are asked to discuss the passage and share their views. They are asked to find out the meaning of new words using the glossary. The teacher helps them using various techniques.

Authoritative – showing that you expect others to obey and respect you. (verbally)

Activity 1
Time:10minutes
Objective: to check the comprehension level of the students.
Instructions: teacher asks the students to answer a few scaffolding questions.
  1. Why do you think, the writer wanted to visit Miss Beam’s school?
  2. Do you think Miss Beam’s school is different from other schools? How?
  3. What according to Miss Beam, is the real aim of the school?

Consolidation
Teacher consolidates the answer of the students and necessary suggestions are given.

Activity 2 (discourse)
Time: 10minutes
Objective: to develop creativity and imagination
Instruction: students are asked to write a conversation between Miss Beam and narrator

Consolidation
Learner’s presentation are edited and commented upon by the teacher. Teacher consolidates the answer of each group. Necessary suggestions are given by the teacher. The teacher presents her own version.
